Our Mission Statement
The Collegian serves the community by informing its audience of current events from an impartial standpoint.
Our History

The Collegian was first published in 1919 as The Universi-Teaser, and it was renamed The Campus Collegian three years later. In 1962, it became simply The Collegian.
In 2000, after a long history as a student organization sponsored by the University of Toledo's Office of the Dean of Students, the editorial staff sought independence. The new paper severed all organizational ties with the University and was called The Independent Collegian. This allowed the paper to keep and use its ad sales revenue. In the fall of 2012, the newspaper moved back on campus to a suite in the Carlson Library while still remaining independent. In 2019, the paper went dormant due to a lack of funding and a decrease in student involvement.
In the spring of 2022, a handful of students brought back The Collegian with help from the Office the Dean of Students, Collegian alum Yarko Kuk, and Student Government. By that fall, the student newspaper of the University of Toledo was active once again. The first new issue was published in February of 2023, with two more issues that spring.
